“Have a wee dram for the road,” is a well-famed Scottish expression, usually uttered in friendship to a departing guest. We at Merlins Rest Pub would like to propose our own unique version of this worthy custom, and invite our guests to stand at the door of adventure and take their own ‘spiritual’ journey across the whisky regions of Scotland and Ireland – one dram at a time.
A dram is a traditional unit of measurement and exactly half the volume we normally use for our spirits. Priced accordingly, the intrepid ‘traveler’ may enjoy four different whiskies without breaking the bank, an ideal economy in the current economic climate. #homeofthedram
Merlins Rest Pub is blessed with over 340 single malt Scotch whiskies and 140 Irish whiskies, both single malt and blended. For the inquisitive, we are proud to have compiled the “Scotch Bible” which describes each brand in detail, outlining the location and history of the distillery, as well as the whisky’s flavour profile, bouquet and perceived nuances. The 18th edition was released in beginning of 2019.
‘Whisky wayfaring’ is an unrivaled way to expand the appreciation and knowledge of Scotch or Irish whiskey, and, at an affordable price – it’s perfect.
The United Kingdom Scotch Whisky Regulations state: a “Single Malt Scotch Whisky” must be made exclusively from malted barley (although the addition of E150A caramel colouring is allowed), must be distilled using a pot still, and must be aged for at least three years in oak casks of a capacity not exceeding 700 litres (150 imperial gallons; 180 US gallons).
The Scotch Bible
There is not a better selection of single malt Scotch Whisky or Irish Whisky anywhere in Minnesota than we have at Merlins Rest Pub. We’ve looked around and we are quite sure. In fact, we competitively have the largest selection in the Midwest, with 340 different expressions of single malt Scotch and 140 expressions of Irish Whiskey.
They’ve all been summarized and cataloged in our famed Scotch Bible of great legends and songs. There is nothing quite like it to be found anywhere else! The Scotch Bible – Stop in and ask for it at Merlins Rest Pub and be prepared to be enlightened and delighted! We released the 18th edition the beginning of 2019! We recently moved to a separate “bible” for Single Malt and Irish Whiskey due to the increased inventory – be sure to ask for specific bible or BOTH!
This tremendous fountain of information is carefully organized to provide the maximum sipping pleasure for the Whisky connoisseur and novice alike. It’s the centerpiece of our Single Malt Scotch Whisky tasting experience the first Thursday of every month, which the novice and true aficionado should simply never miss.
Our complete list is subject to change when we add amazing new whisk(e)ys or (sadly) run dry on some of the more exotic additions. If you are coming to Merlins Rest Pub for a specific expression, please call ahead to ensure that we currently have it in stock. (612) 216-2419.
