Tonight: Folk Jam
Time: 7:30 pm

It’s Tuesday and the instruments are out! Don’t let winter put a damper on your winter, friends. Get together, tap your foot, sing along even, and enjoy the company of the pub.

Join a host of friends up here as they jam without amps or mics. It’s a little thing we like to call the Folk Jam: mandolins, guitars, simple percussion, fiddles, etc. Lovely stuff.

Join us!

January 1, 1:00 pm

On New Year’s Day we will open at High Noon for some holiday fun. Two events are on tap: the First Footing party in the afternoon, and a single-malt scotch tasting in the evening.

Regarding First Footing, here’s the invitation to all from the St. Andrew’s Society of Minnesota:

Now that Christmas is over, set your plans for New Year’s Day and attend the St. Andrew’s First Footing celebration!  We will gather at Merlin’s Rest, starting at 1:00 p.m.  Come anytime after that and enjoy the camaraderie and good times of an old fashioned Scottish First Footing.  There will be food and drink available for purchase.  Hope to see you there!

Thursday, January 1, 7:30 pm

Start off the new year with a nip of the best! The Whisky Wench (a.k.a., Fiona) is back with our next single-malt scotch tasting. Fiona reports:

I have some fine drams for you and this time we will focus upon what’s in a finish; contrasting some light finales with the heady richness of The Macallan.
#1: Royal Brackla – 10yr
#2: Singleton – 12yr
#3: Hazelburn – 8yr
#4: The Macallan Cask Strength

Check out more at for tasting notes (click on the tasting tab). Cost to participate: $25 per person. And, of course, shortbread is included! Sláinte.

Monday through Thursday

Whether it’s been a hard day or a really lovely one, we invite you up for after work specials here at Merlins Rest. From 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, we’re offering $3.75 import pints; and we’ve got some of the best: Guinness, Belhaven, Fuller’s, etc. Other beer and liquor specials will be available too, as will food specials on cheese dips, lamb chops and more.
