Ah, Michael Jackson was the Beer Hunter:
http://michaeljacksonthebeerhunter.blogspot.com/

As for the scotch tasting, we'll set that date shortly. John Dingley returns from Wales this evening (Wednesday), I believe, so we'll set a date in for the next couple weeks. And I hope to have tasting cards on hand too! Happy days, Stefan.

To SueZ, arr we be. Us scurvy dogs will be a-singing sea-shanties and splicing the mainbrace. Rum an' hard tack too. There be an open mike that very night and any buccaneer or free-booter is welcome to jump up an' share a pirate rant, a crusty tale or a salty song. So close-haul yer sail an' drop yer killicks down at Merlins and join the boarding-party. Aye-aye now.

can't wait for the malt tasting. As for Michael Jackson, I never knew him as the beer taster. Perhaps that is because as a German, the knowledge of beer is genetic; whereas, with Single Malts, a little education (and entertainment as he did provide) was always welcome. I'll have to remember to bring the guide:

I think a Samhain/Hallows Eve event would be a delight. I've been reading old texts. It was tradtional to feast on the "Samhain pig" at this time.

Yes, indeed this will be our 12th year of holding Samhain, for the last two years we were at The Lake St. Garage. It falls on Wednesday this year, so It's also Old Molly's night. Come as yourself - or somebody else, prizes for best costume! More info as time goes on.

Fáilte an lá nua.

I've had it in my head for sometime that there needs to be a local pub that celebrates the works of the celebrated bard of Dundee - William Topaz McGonnagal - widely held to be the worst poet in the history of the English language.

The date of his birth is April 24th, so you have plenty of time to plan an event. For some reason, it seems to be that if a dinner is served in McGonnagal's honor the courses are served in reverse - you start with coffee, followed by desert and continue on through appetizers.

But, of course, the main draw has to be recital's of some of McGonnagal's "verse" - such as:

"The Demon Drink
Oh, thou demon Drink, thou fell destroyer;
Thou curse of society, and its greatest annoyer.
What hast thou done to society, let me think?
I answer thou hast caused the most of ills, thou demon Drink."

He's written much worse, but that gives you a taste of the man's work. I'm already looking forward to the wonderful event you can put together to honor a true Scottish gem of a man. Not only did he write the worst poetry ever published - he made a living off of it - for 25 years.

McGonnagal Day - Great Idea! Let's make it 24th April next year. The day after Shakespear's birthday. We could have a reading of awful poems, (I have a few of my own!)

As the bard of Dundee once wrote ...

"On yonder hill there stands a coo
I ye canny see it,
It's no there noo."

pip-pip,

Feb. 6th The Nameless Read-Aloud Club will be meeting 6:30-8:00 to eat, drink and read to eachother. All are welcome to listen and/or read. Last month we especially cherished the readings by Shannon Brennan and Cyn Collins! We tend to laugh alot louder than we read and it's a very good time.
