After some dodgy calls by the officials during the US – Brazil match on Sunday in Dresden, Germany, both squads were feeling a bit chippy and the desperation of the knock-out round (quarterfinals) began to show. Then, in the 122nd minute, as the US was down a goal and in the extra time of extra time, Megan Rapinoe and Abby Wambach hooked up with a spectacular, tournament-saving goal:
Big congratulations to the US women for a brilliant, hard fought, and well-deserved victory. 5-3 on penalty kicks!? It’s going to be hard to find a better match in the semi-finals or final, but we’ll hope for as much.
On Wednesday, July 13, we’ll open at 10:00 am and serve up breakfast. When the US Women take the field against France in the semi-final, we’ll watch it all on the big screen.
