March 3: Folk Jam and Whisky News

Tonight: Folk Jam
Time: 7:30 pm

It’s Tuesday and the instruments are out! A chilly winter’s day folk jam is here to warm you up! Join a host of friends up here as they jam without amps or mics. It’s a little thing we like to call the Folk Jam: mandolins, guitars, simple percussion, fiddles, etc. Lovely stuff.

And you might just find our good friend Bill Watkins involved too. Bill has a new website, by the way:…though I suspect that if you find him tonight it will be wallowing in pain as the poor devil has given his back a throw. Wish him well! Take two Guiness and call for another, Bill.

Thursday, March 5

Good heavens! The Whisky Wench (Fiona) returns on Thursday, March 5 at 7:30 pm to host the next Single-Malt Whisky Tasting. This go-round, we’re operating under the theme of…That Peaty Bastard!

Peaty Blend, Vatted and Single malts compared:

The Big Smoke, Islay Blend
Peat Monster, Compass Box Vatted malt. From Port Askaig, Islay and Kennethmot, Speyside
Ardbeg 10yr, Islay Single Malt
Bruichladdich Peat, Islay Single Malt (from the same range as the wonderful Rocks)

Read more from the forthcoming tasting notes at the new Whisky Wench website. The details:$25 flat fee to participate; 4 – 5 grand pours from our extensive stock. It’s great fun and really really great scotch.

Monday through Thursday

Whether it’s been a hard day or a really lovely one, we invite you up for after work specials here at Merlins Rest. From 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, we’re offering $3.75 import pints; and we’ve got some of the best: Guinness, Belhaven, Fuller’s, etc. Other beer and liquor specials will be available too, as will food specials on cheese dips, lamb chops and more.
