November 20: Thursday Cooks, Birds & SCOTCH, and More

Tonight: Music from Cooker John
Time: 9:00 pm

Tonight, we’re cookin’! Cooker John returns for his monthly third Thursday gig.

Cooker John is one of the Twin Cities’ finest musicians. He plays finger-style and slide guitar, mixing folk, blues and originals that reflect a performing experience of over 40 years. Pop in for a tincture and at the same time enjoy this opportunity to share a musical experience of unusual depth and expertise. Music starts around 9 PM.

This past Tuesday night, the monthly Birds and Beers gathering was held at Merlins with Minnesota’s own Birdchick (aka, Sharon Stiteler). She’s posted an entertaining account of the evening (including the unveiling of a white-breasted nuthatch foot), Bill’s kilted appearance, and plenty of photographc evidence.

It turned into a glorious Birds & Scotch event. Well done.

Great account. Give it a read, friends.

Look who may be blogging again: a man who seeks to avoid the cheese sandwich (so to speak).

November 23

Scottish Authors and Music at Merlins Rest. Join us and Minnesota Scottish authors Bill Watkins (A Celtic Childhood, Scotland Is Not for the Squeamish, and The Once and Future Celt), Jack and Barbara Maloney (The Wee Mad Road), Barbara and Jack MacKinnon (Where Rivers Meet) and Audrey McClellan for a bit of books and music fun. Dunquin will provide the music. The authors will be discussing their books, Scotland and Scottish life, and all things Scottish! The event will take place from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.

From 4:00 – 6:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, we’re offering $3.75 import pints–and we’ve got some of the best: Guinness, Belhaven, Fuller’s, etc. Other beer and liquor specials will be available too, as will food specials on cheese dips, lamb chops and more.
