June 2: Open Mic & Whisky News

Open Mic at Merlins Rest in MplsTonight: Open Mic with Harrison Matthews
Time: 8:00/8:30 pm

What a gorgeous weekend that was!

We had a lovely book launch on Friday night for Bill Watkins’ newest, The Once and Future Celt–check out photos from it in our “Spamalot” write up–and we’ll hold another one this Friday with music starting around 5:00 and the reading happening around 6:15/6:30.

And the weather was just picture perfect! For the most part, blue and toasty out…with just a tiny hint of danger of storms the other night. For my own druthers, I have to say I kind of wish that storm had come in the midst of Grand Old Day here in Saint Paul, but that’s only because I live close enough that the traffic and mania really gums up my block, so that’s not worth much sympathy. At any rate…

We sally forth on the normal course of things tonight with the Merlins Rest Open Mic. Catch it at 8:00/8:30 pm. It’s hosted by our good friend Harrison Matthews and it’s loads of fun. Definitely a fine way to infuse some creativity into the week, which can be essential on a Monday, as you know.

So lend your ear to it if you will, or perhaps even lend your voice and creative talent. Poems, stories, songs; guitars, tap shoes, whathave. It’s a spirited time. All are welcomed.

The Bridge has published a piece about the launch of Bill’s book. Lovely.

wench.jpgFiona, aka the Whisky Wench, will lead the next Single-Malt Whisky Tasting on Thursday, June 5 at 7:30 pm.

The theme for the next event hasn’t been announced yet but it will be shortly, so stay tuned to this website!

The details: $25 flat fee to participate, 4 – 5 grand pours from our extensive stock. Give this community event a try, friends. It’s great fun and really really great whisky. Cheers to the Wench!
