May 23: St. Andrew’s Pub Night!

St. Andrew's Society of MinnesotaTonight: Live Celtic Music
Time: 8:30 pm –

It’s Kilt Night! And how better to celebrate it than with live Celtic music? We’ll give you bonus: the first St. Andrew’s Society Pub Night of 2008!

(Big thanks to Fedgunner for the reminder on X Marks the Scot.)

We’re big fans of the St. Andrew’s Society. They keep the traditions and culture alive and lively here in Minnesota. So pop up this evening and give ’em a cheer! And while you’re at it, take in some live Celtic music. The session musicians will be in the pub playing traditional music as it’s meant to be played: sans amps and mics. Irish pipes and fiddles, bodhrans and mandolins and so much more. Give it a listen and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!

The Once and Future Celt Our boy Bill Watkins has his third book coming out: The Once and Future Celt. Minneapolis based Scarletta Press is releasing it, and we at Merlins are pleased as punch. (You can acquire Bill’s first two books–A Celtic Childhood and Scotland Is Not for the Squeamish–here at the pub.) To celebrate the release of …Future Celt, we’re holding two readings with Billy:

Friday, May 30, 5 – 7:30 pm
Friday, June 6, 5 – 7:30 pm

Join us for selections from Bill’s work, lots of banter and the smell of new books! Get your copy signed and raise a pint to the man.

Following Bill’s readings will be the normal Friday fun: kilts and live Celtic music!
