Thursday: Dinosaurs, Radios and Gatherings

Happy days, friends. The weekend is nigh! Start early and have a bit of fun on this fine Thursday. On the event front, we’ve got Dino and the Dinosaurs bringing you the blues–and they’re the good kind of blues. And Clint Hoover may join in on the harmonica, it seems. Music starts around 9 PM.

RADIO DAYS

Our friend Bill Watkins was actually on KFAI’s Write On Radio! show the other day. Bill’s third book, The Once and Future Celt, will be published by Minneapolis’ Scarletta Press in 2008.

Give a listen to the interview through the “Stream” option on this KFAI page.

MORE GATHERINGS

Yesterday we posted a sneak preview of some gathering coming to Merlins Rest in February. These are open events that the organizers invite all too. No covers. Just fun happening at some place within the pub and which you are welcomed to join. And these events, please know, are only those in addition to our regular events (such as the weekly folk jams and pub quizzes).

Here is one event that will take place after the Scottish Ramble (which I didn’t post fast enough yesterday) and two that came to me later in the day (Read Aloud and Druids Grove). So, the list of Special Gatherings and Events for February, reposted:

Monday, February 4, 7 PM – Merlins Medieval History Meetup Group. Join us ahead of the open mic for a bit of fun discussion about heralds, crests, family histories, Renaissance Fair-type topics, and so forth. Have questions? Have curious knowledge of former days? Join us and share your stories.

Wednesday, February 6, 6:00-8:30 PM – The Nameless Read-Aloud Club will meet to eat, drink and read to each other. Got a favorite passage from a novel? or a poem you revere? All are welcomed to listen and/or read. Member Mary L. reports that “Last month we especially cherished the readings by Shannon Brennan and Cyn Collins! We tend to laugh alot louder than we read and it’s a very good time.”

Thursday, February 7, 7:30 PM – Single-Malt Whisky Tasting. Join fellow tasters and sample four or five grand pours from our stock. $25 flat fee to participate. Scottish music provided for all. So bring your friends and tell your enemies!

Saturday, February 16 – Scottish Night! The Scottish Ramble’s first day will conclude in downtown St. Paul, and then we’ll gather here in the pub for a night of Scottish revelry: Cock-a-Leekie Soup, libations, kilts and more. We had a blast on Burns Night. We’re going to have a blast again. All are invited.

Wednesday, February 20, 7 – 9 PMThe Druids Grove monthly gathering. If you’ve an interest in the spiritual path of Druidry, by all means stop up and meet our friends in this group. All are welcomed.

Thursday, February 28, 6:00 PM – Birds & the Beers Gathering! Sharon Stiteler (aka, the Birdchick) is calling all birders together again for pints and a meetup.
