Saturday: Doctor Who and the Hot Club

No, Doctor Who and the Hot Club is not a new jazz line up. (If anyone comes before the Hot Club, it’s only the man himself, Papa John Kolstad.) But both are integral to today’s fun.

We start at 4 PM. The Doctor Who Meetup Group is gathering in Merlins for an afternoon rollick. Whether you’re an aficionado of our time-traveling doctor’s adventures or just someone with a passing, or potentially non-existent, interest, you’re welcome to join them. Or shun them and sit at the other end of the bar!

And this evening brings the Hot Club of East Lake. Lord those guys are good. It’s some gorgeously-played jazz for a Saturday evening. Pop in and relax.

WHAT WE’RE READING

* Norwich School, which was founded in the 11th century and at which Lord Admiral Nelson was educated growing up, will admit girls for the first time in its rather long history.

* Ian McNeill moves between two worlds: rugby and pansies. (He’s a florist! Knock it off, you.)

* If you’re gonna go, go big! That was the mode of the day in Edinburgh, where the world’s largest bowl of porridge (81.2 kg!) has been poured. It must be one of Dingley’s fantasies!

* And speaking of kilograms, the 118-year-old kilogram prototype kept under lock and key is actually losing weight.
