The Hot Club, What Was, & What Will Be

Saturdays bring the Hot Club into the pub to provide the good tunes. Join us as the summer’s happy days continue. (Man it’s been nice weather, hasn’t it?) Get yourself a pint and a cottage pie and let your foot tap and your mouth smile.

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Ah, the Sunday Pub Quiz is coming up. (Takes place on Sunday, of course, at 8 pm.) Haven’t been tracking the news? Current events are sometimes important to the quiz. Here are a few UK stories we were looking at this week. More items of trivia will be posted tomorrow.

* Soccer star David Beckham arrived in America to play for the LA Galaxy. His wife, Victoria, is also known as Posh Spice (of the Spice Girls). The Spice Girls are gearing up for a reunion tour. * * * The British military was blamed for releasing honey badgers in Basra, Iraq. * * * Police in Strathclyde, Scotland have launched an online puppy-cam * * * Author Sebastian Faulks has been announced as the writer of the next Bond novel. He was awarded the gig by the estate of Ian Fleming. * * * The fifth Harry Potter film (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) was released at midnight on Tuesday and took in roughly $45 million in the US that day. The seventh and final Harry Potter novel (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) will be released on July 21. * * * A home of Dylan Thomas is up for auction. Thomas is the famed Welsh poet who wrote “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” and “Fern Hill.” * * * And cow methane production may be cut by giving them garlic.

WHAT WILL BE

* Sunday Pub Quiz – 8 pm

* Ceili Dancing will start at 7 pm on Monday and be followed by an Open Mic. Bring your poems, stories, acoustic guitar and voice. What have you. Join in!

* The Birds and the Beers – The Birdchick has invited bird enthusiasts and ornithologists of all skill and interest levels to gather informally at Merlins Rest on Tuesday, July 17 at 6:00 pm. As many of you know, we at the pub love birds. Wonderful creatures! We’ve even decorated a wall with images of some of our favorites. So please pop in on Tuesday and, if you’re interested in birds too, introduce yourself.

* The next Single-Malt Scotch Tasting will be held at Merlins Rest on Thursday, August 2, at 7:30 pm.
