Some of the musicians tuning up ahead of last night’s folk jam. The Old Molly’s Folk Jam is an every-Wednesday event. More information and photographs later in today’s entry.

Area paper The Bridge has posted a nice article about Merlins Rest! Thanks for that. We appreciate it. Get a free copy of the issue in the pub along with the latest Irish Gazette…which has also published a nice piece about Merlins. (Thanks, Brooks!)

And we spotted a write up of the weekly Bedlam Tuesday at the North Country Druid’s blog!

Enter a Latvian Choir…

As night fell, more musicians joined in. A rollicking good time!

Last night’s session of the Old Molly’s Folk Jam–a loose gathering of musician friends–set up near the front window and provided some wonderful sounds for the pub. Many people in the bar joined in to sing along with the jam, which included a mix of guitars, mandolins, pipes and fiddle.

Pub singing is a great pasttime in many parts of the world, but sadly not so strong in the US. Here, the cover of a high-volume CD player is nearly always needed.

But singing is a joy, and we had many wonderful moments last night. Not only did the jam take place and involve many of the pub’s revelers, but some 15 or so members of a nearby Latvian choir showed up and treated the pub to a spirited song in their native tongue.

John Dingley (a fine tenor) and yer man Bill Watkins (a right fine piece of work!) added to the trading of songs.

It was a rousing evening–the sort we have many of here. Sing it, friends. Don’t be shy.

Save the Date – Single Malt Thursdays!

We’re setting Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 pm for the first of our monthly single malt tastings. More information to follow. But why wait until then? Tonight is Thursday! Get a sneek peak at our growing whiskey list on the Menu. Pop in and sample. If you want to be truly adventurous, have a glass of Sheep Dip or Pig’s Nose–two items our marauding Welshman, John Dingley, has procured “to keep in touch with my agricultural roots,” he says.

Make Thursday night a single malt sampler night. Unwind ahead of the weekend (so you can actually enjoy it!). And join us for the first of the single malt tastings on Thursday, June 21! It’s going to be a blast.
