NEWSÂ
Some headlines from around the Isles that may interest you, friends:
Cutty Sark arson? – The historic Cutty Sark has burned. One of the last of the 19th-century clipper ships to be built before steamships overtook the seas, it has had about 15 million visitors since being docked and opened to the public. The ship had been undergoing preservation-minded renovations in Greenwich, England. Arson is being investigated as a cause.
The Carrick – Similar to the Cutty Sark is the Carrick. The Carrick is another 19th-century clipper ship, one of the last surviving vessels. It’s scheduled to be demolished but may be preserved after the Cutty Sark’s fire.
Ireland’s Drought Ends – No, we aren’t talking about water resources. We’re talking about golf. Padraig Harrington has become the first Irishman since in 25 years to win the Irish Open. Well done, man.
The Effects of a Warmer Wales – With global warming comes a host of species challenges. In Wales, a report released today indicates that it may spell doom for the common scoter, song thrush and black grouse; but it may also help along the horseshoe bat and the marsh fritillary butterfly. These are just a few species in question (and perhaps with questions) regarding climate change.
